Bestselling Manifestation Book Author of 'Become the CEO of Your Dream Life'
Gratitude greatly influenced my manifestation success. When I noticed this, I was looking for more tips for gratitude and ways to express my gratitude. A gratitude list (or a gratitude journal) is a wonderful law of attraction tool and definitely helps you to manifest faster. So I wanted to know how I could make my gratitude list more powerful. And today I like to share my results with you.
Here are my top five tips for gratitude and create your perfect gratitude list or journal:
While the root of all evil is negative thoughts, the opposite is true for positive ones. And with a gratitude list, you can easily shift your mind into positive thoughts, while concentrating on all the good things in your life and for what you are thankful for.
Before I get into more detail of the five tips for your gratitude journal, let’s quickly have a look at how to start a gratitude journal, and why this manifesting tool is so powerful.
If you never had a gratitude list in your life, or maybe you just don’t know how to get started, let’s do a little exercise first:
Start by writing down five things you are grateful for right now. As I mentioned above, it does not matter how big or how small they are. And then reflect on how did it go.
If you are feeling great about the five things you did write on paper and they came to you just naturally, perfect. You can skip the next step and move on to the different ways of implementing a gratitude list into your life.
But maybe you struggle with those five points, and it just didn’t feel right? Or you didn’t find five things to be grateful for?
Don’t worry, this happens to many people, and it’s ok. Think about how we live these days, when you watch the news, you most likely only see pain and suffering in the world. It’s not easy to concentrate on the positive in a world full of negative.
In case you struggle to come up with five points for your gratitude list, there is an exercise that I found to be very helpful; take a piece of paper and write down everything in your mind that is negative. Everything that comes up.
While we should not concentrate on the negative, sometimes just writing it down really helps. Just get it out of your system.
When you finished writing, tear the paper apart, and trash it. You won’t need these negative feelings anymore; it’s ok to let them go.
You may repeat this a few times, that’s ok, it’s a helpful little ritual. Whenever you are ready, try again to come up with five things you are grateful for.
You can repeat this ritual as often as needed. Don’t worry if it takes you days or even weeks. Personal Growth and changing your mindset is a process, and the change will happen, but maybe not overnight.
Some changes will come very quickly; some may take a bit longer.

There have been countless studies showing that expressing gratitude has a positive effect on your physical or psychological health.
The good thing is, there is always something in life to be grateful for because when it comes to a gratitude list, nothing is too small to add it to your list.
It’s just about the feeling of being grateful.
The universe (in reality, your subconscious mind) will not know if it’s for the new shiny car you have waiting in your garage, or you just found a penny on the street.
Nor will it see any difference to you saying thank you for just having the time in the morning to eat breakfast with your family or that you can have your breakfast at the beautiful Andaz in Maui (one of my favorite hotels btw.)
I’m grateful for small things, like living in a place that is only a short walk from my gym. For some people, the gym may be more of a pain, but for me, it means the world that I can just quickly go up there and work out, or have some relaxing time at the wellness area, whenever I feel like.
So start to look around you and discover new things every day that you can be grateful for.
And now, let’s dive into my five top tips to make your gratitude list bullet-proof.
There are many ways on how you can implement a gratitude list into your everyday life. And there is no right or wrong; you should choose a way that feels right for you. Something you know you can keep up with on a daily basis.
To build a habit, you should do things regularly, best every day. Getting started is more important than being perfect.
Still, I like to give you some input on how you can implement a gratitude list into your daily life and make your gratitude even more powerful.
Handwriting is more powerful in a process like this. In fact, it slows down the process, which means that every word you write has more time to set into your subconscious mind.
In a study on handwriting, conducted by the University of Stavanger, they found out that writing by hand makes the process of learning stronger. When you write by hand, your brain receives some kind of feedback from the writing itself (motor action), but also from touching the materials like paper and pen.
And they also found out that this feedback was very different when touching or typing on a keyboard, like on your computer or mobile phone.
That said if writing a gratitude list on the notepad on your phone is the only way for you to implement this on a daily basis, go for it.
Maybe you don’t see how you can fit in a gratitude journal into your busy schedule, and your commute into the office is the only time left? No problem. As mentioned above, actually doing it is still more important than the how.
Get yourself a beautiful notebook, resting on your bedside table, ready to pick up every morning.
A gratitude journal should be something ongoing. Surely you will repeat some of the points but always lookout for new things you can add to your gratitude list.
I bet, after a while, more of these things will show up. The universe is fast in giving feedback; that’s what the law of attraction is all about!
It is totally ok to repeat some points. I write down my gratitude for the fact that I found Tom, my wonderful husband, daily. Some things in your life are just too good to only write done once, how grateful you are for them.
On some days, you will struggle with showing gratitude, that’s ok. You can always go back to the ritual with writing down negative thoughts and tear apart the paper whenever you feel this could be helpful.
Also, an excellent way to set you in the right state of mind is re-reading your list or some points on it, especially when you read them out loud.
I do this as a little ritual during the day. It’s so nice to focus on the things you are grateful for, and this will lift you straight away.
If you do write your list in the morning, as part of your morning routine, it is a good idea to end your day and re-read what you wrote done in the morning. Here you may also want to add a few more points to your list.
Describe your perfect life and explain how thankful you are about all these things. Writing your gratitude list, like you would tell a story, is a great idea.
This technique is also called future scripting, a very powerful journaling exercise to activate the law of attraction.
Whenever possible, take some extra time for your list. In fact, it’s one of the reasons why I get up at 4:30 am every morning.
Don’t just write down: “I’m grateful for having the gym near my house.”
Write instead: “I’m thankful for being able to go to the gym whenever I want. I’m so thankful that my gym is only a 2 minutes walk away from my home. Sometimes I walk up there for half an hour relaxing in the sauna or a short HIIT workout. I love the short walk around my neighborhood along the little park”.
You may even want to add some drawings.
Be creative; this is YOUR reflection on your beautiful life; the more detail and attention you give to it, the stringer the emotional activation.
When you write out what you are thankful for in your life, it’s always a good idea to write down the reasons for it.
Why exactly are you grateful for those things?
It’s a great way to reflect on your life and makes the whole process more powerful.
When I write on my gratitude list that I’m thankful for having the gym next door, I may also write that this is great because it saves me a lot of time that I would otherwise spend in the car to drive to the gym.
And thanks for saving this time, I can fit in a workout more often even with a hectic and tight work schedule.
Do you see what I mean? Writing down reasons makes everything so much more powerful, and your subconscious mind will understand the importance of this point and bring more of it into your life.
My husband, Tom, likes to talk to himself about what he is grateful for when he gets ready in the morning. He has a very busy job and travels a lot, so this helps him to do his gratitude exercise wherever he is, and he can get ready for work at the same time.
When he is at home, we usually do this together, talking to each other about the amazing things in our life, while having a cup of tea.
I hope this post helped you to jump-start your gratitude list. Or maybe a gratitude journal is something you are doing for quite a long time, but you appreciate getting some new input?
