How to Stop Negative Self-Talk

We are often very hard on ourselves. Whether we are aware of it or not, our beliefs can be very damaging to our self-image, and therefore our self-esteem. Unfortunately, these negative words we tell ourself, often just come on autopilot and keep going on and on in our heads.
And this loop of negative thoughts about ourselves can be very damaging. Especially when you want to manifest your dream life and reach your goals.
The good news is, it is your conscious decision about how you want to feel about yourself, and you are the person that can stop the negative self-talk immediately.
In fact, YOU are the only person that can stop it!
And today I will show you how.

Know the Triggers
One of the first steps to stop the negative self-talk is to find out what actually triggers your negative beliefs you hold about yourself.
These are usually events that happen to you or around you.
Everything, from the dissatisfied customer, getting angry at you on the phone (oh how little I miss my days working in IT support), to a more dramatic event, like a rear-end collision.
All this can be a trigger.
But it can also be something very personal, e.g., your appearance you are not happy with. Like the few pounds too much you want to lose, or your nose you don't like.
Then, of course, your relationships, your family, your integrity, and everything else that is important to you.
When these problems are addressed, it immediately triggers a negative reaction in you. And the spiral of negative self-talk and self-doubt is activated.
Identifying Your Irrational Beliefs
But basically, it is not the triggers that are the problem. The irrational beliefs we have are responsible for our emotional states.
Let me give you an example.
Your goal is to lose weight. But now you've had a rough week, and you just treat yourself to some comfort food and wine over the weekend.
On Monday morning, you are standing on the scales and have gained three pounds from last Friday.
Rationally speaking, you would probably know that 3 pounds gain since Friday is most likely water weight. And even if not, 3 pounds is not the end of the world.
But then your irrational beliefs come up, for example: "I will never be able to lose weight," or "I must stick to a diet for the rest of my life because as soon as I eat "normally" for two days, I gain weight."
The problem is, these irrational beliefs or thoughts are poisonous.
They are poison for your emotional health, and they are poison when it comes to manifesting your dreams and goals.
Not the trigger itself, but your beliefs is what causes the negative self-talk.
So you should really concentrate on identifying and then changing these beliefs.
Change Irrational Beliefs
Changing these irrational and negative beliefs starts with identifying them.
And then start to question these beliefs. Turn your negative self-talk around; begin to ask yourself one question instead:
Is this belief I hold, really the truth?
The thing with our negative (or irrational) beliefs is that they only exist in one place, our head.
They are NOT the truth, they are a "truth" we want to believe, or we started to belief due to outer influences.
The simple question about the truth can help you to recognize what you mistakenly believe or how you negatively think about a situation.
Once you start to understand that this negative belief is not the truth, you begin to get a different feeling for the situation.
Follow this process when you notice thoughts that are negative and harmful. Change your beliefs, and you will find that your self-talk will stop NOW.
