7 Ways to Stay Positive When Surrounded by Negative People

We all know them, negative people: the haters, the pessimists, the grumblers of this world. You are different; you work on your goals, and you want to manifest your dreams. You know that the Law of Attraction is real and you attract what you concentrate on. Right? So how can you stay positive when surrounded by all this negativity?

You try everything to stay positive, even in tough times? But the negativity around you makes it hard to live that way.

I totally get you. It can be hard!

Negative people can have a big influence on how you feel, how your day goes, and how you are pursuing your dreams and goals.

If you let too much of this negativity get to you, you may well fall into such a trot yourself.

And that would be terrible news for your goals!

The good news is, that doesn't have to be the case. There are many ways to reduce the impact these negative people can have on you.

You may not be able to avoid negative people altogether, but you can avoid the negative consequences they have on your life.

Here my 7 top strategies, to stay positive when surrounded by negative people:

1. Be Grateful

Oh yes, gratitude is one of my secret weapons when it comes to manifesting!

I am 100% convinced that my gratitude contributes a great deal to my happiness and the wonderful things I regularly attract into life.

It is scientifically proven that there is no place for negative thoughts and feelings besides gratitude. Gratitude closes in our brain, something like a gate, and everything negative must remain outside.

2. Choose Your Own Happiness

Yeah, exactly, how you feel is your decision. And yours alone.

You are responsible for how you feel and what emotions other people trigger in you. And so it is with the negativity of these people.

Personally, I try to avoid negativity as much as possible. I don't watch the news, don't read newspapers, when I was still in my 9-5 job, I tried to not listen to the negative talk in the coffee break.

Usually, I was just listening to personal development audiobooks or podcasts instead.

But this is not 100% of the time possible. But you definitely have 100% control over what this negativity triggers in you.

3.  Make the World a Better Place

I don't recommend that you try to change the negative people, because unfortunately, this is usually impossible. But I firmly believe that the more positive we send out into the world, the more of it will come back into our lives.

You can make your contribution to make this world a better place each day.

For example, when I see negative posts and discussions in my facebook feed, I delete these people from my friend's list. If everyone would do that, such people would soon have no one left to bother with their negative way of thinking.

I myself share a lot of positive news (e.g., from the good news network) and hope with it to make my friends' day better. (Don't we all love to read a good story?)

Don't fight against the evil, support the good!

4. Practice Stoicism

The philosophy of the Stoa is a philosophical movement that began around 300 B.C. and ended with the Roman Stoa around 200 A.D..

What the Stoics have in common is the idea that we should not see ourselves as victims of fate or emotions.

Stoic serenity would be good for many people in this world, and it can help you simply ignore the negative people around you.

5. Tell Them to Shut Up

As I mentioned in the third point, fighting against it is mostly pointless. Nevertheless, you can open your mouth and tell these miserable people what you think of them and their whining.

It probably won't make any difference, but sometimes it just feels great to let go.

6. Spend More Time with the Most Important Person in Your Life

And the most important person in your life is YOU!

Enjoy more time alone, for yourself, for example, for your personal development. My manifesting challenge is an excellent start for this, and I take care that it is 100% free of any negativity! Join here for free!

Many people are afraid of being alone and prefer to spend their time with people who aren't good for them. This is a big mistake.

Time with ourselves helps us to reflect more, to work more on ourselves and our goals, and to protect us from the negative people out there.

7. Surround Yourself With Positive People

There's that quote; "you become like the five people you spend the most time with. Choose carefully" - and so it is.

The people who surround us have an enormous influence on us, so it is obvious that we should not surround ourselves with these negative people, but with positive people who support us and our dreams.

One reason why I started the Self Made Ladies community!

When I started to study the Law of Attraction more intensively, over a decade ago, I felt very often alone.

  • There was a lack of understanding, e.g., from my parents, who had completely different beliefs...

  • There was negativity from so-called friends, whose life was just not great at the time... (But so was mine!)

  • There was a lot of pessimism from people who had lost their faith...

Nevertheless, I kept going, and today I am very grateful for it, but the few people I had in my life, who showed interest in the same things as I did, who supported me, who believed in me, gave me the necessary courage and support.

Back then, I would have loved a community of like-minded women like this one!
