5 THINGS YOU NEED TO DO BEFORE YOU GO TO BED


At the Self Made Ladies Community, I made it my mission, to help you live a better life and, of course, build a more sustainable business. Honestly, this is my main motivation getting up in the morning.

When I say morning, in my house, it means 4:30 am, most days out of the week.

Sounds crazy to you?

Then keep on reading, and you will become one of us, part of the new 5 am club, the 4:30 am club, because earlier is always better, isn’t it?

But as much as I know how great it feels to get up early and kick-start the new day with a great morning routine, I also understand that getting up early, especially motivated and in a great mood, is not always as easy as it may sound on paper (or a blog.)

I still have some mornings where I would love to use the snooze button. Luckily, on my devices, the snooze button is deactivated. #lifehack

TO TAKE ON THE WORLD, YOUR DAY SHOULD REALLY START THE NIGHT BEFORE

I love to write about the great things you can do in your morning routines, and how to get the right motivation to get up early  and I also believe, that the success of the next day, starts always the night before.

Have you ever noticed how different your morning mood is, depends on what you think just before you fall asleep?

Actually, several studies are showing that visualization techniques are working much better when used just before we fall asleep.

Think about it; it’s logical, the last thing your mind is concentrating on before you sleep is probably the most dominant thing your subconscious mind will work on during your sleep.

But it’s not only about your thoughts, but it’s also your habits that can make a huge difference and determine success and failure.

So this post is all about little rituals you can implement the night before to make sure that your next day will be the best day ever.

Learn in this post five things that will help you to create that perfect bedtime routine.

1. DEACTIVATE THE SNOOZE BUTTON

I can’t stress this point enough really. I never, ever in my life used a snooze button and I believe this is the reason why I never overslept.

Turn off the snooze option on your alarm is probably one of the best hacks you can do, for a better start into the day.

2. PLAN OUT YOUR DAY AND SET GOALS

There is nothing worse than lying in bed and thinking about your next day’s shopping list or that you should call your mum because you haven’t spoken to her for a while.

I guess you know this feeling?

This is actually my number one reason to struggle with my own Morning Routine, and the best way to prevent this kind of insomnia is with a little bit of journaling the night before.

Write down everything that crosses your mind, all the to-dos and, more important, set yourself some goals for the next day.

It will only take 5-10 minutes but makes such a difference.

Once things are on paper, you don’t have to worry about them until the next morning when you finally start with the execution of your plans.

 
 

3. PUT OUT YOUR WORKOUT GEAR

Workout? Did I actually say that in combination with an early morning? Right!

If you have read some of my posts about 101 ideas for your morning routine, you will know by now that I believe in a daily morning workout.

A workout in the morning, and even if it’s only a short burst like a HITT training or a walk around the block, will help you a long way when it comes to starting the day with more energy.

Not only this, but it also creates some happy hormones that we all can use, especially this time of the day.

The best way to make sure that you won't skip your morning workout is getting all your work out gear ready the night before.

4. USE POWERFUL AFFIRMATIONS

Of course, you should also use affirmation in the morning after getting up to set yourself for a perfect day.

But the night before, they can actually help you sleep better and charge your batteries for the day or the week coming.

Here are my top 3 affirmations to get you ready for that next day, the night before:

I’m grateful for the experiences that the last day brought into my life.

I’m ready to take on a new successful day.

I’m looking forward to tomorrow and all the opportunities the new day will bring to me.

 
 

5. GO TO BED 1 HOUR EARLIER

This is a no-brainer; you want to get up early and refreshed the next day, so you should go to bed early.

Usually during the week, for most people this is easy, they are already tired from work.

But the Weekend is different; especially Sunday night is a tricky one.

See, most people don’t get up early on weekends, they sleep in. They don’t have rituals and morning routines on Saturday and Sunday, well maybe except for the grocery shopping.

And this can make it so difficult to go to bed early on a Sunday night.

While it would be great to get up early on Sunday morning, it is not a must. Even in our house, where our early morning routine is very important, we sometimes give us a day off and sleep in. Well at least if our cats agree with not having food at 5 am...

But there is an even easier way to signal your body, that you need to go to bed early and actually get tired.

Just get yourself a routine of something you enjoy and do this on Sunday afternoon. Every Sunday afternoon!

Whatever you like to go to the Sauna, watch an episode of your favorite Netflix series or play a board game with your family. Just make sure you will finish at least 30 minutes before you plan to go to bed, leaving you enough time to do your journaling.



EARLY MORNINGS ARE BEAUTIFUL – THEY ARE THE START OF SOMETHING NEW

So I hope these five things to do before going to bed help you to have a great start to the new day and be more successful.

And don’t forget, early Mornings are beautiful; they are the start of something new, something amazing. So when you do fall asleep, think positive, you can look forward to a new, fantastic adventure; your new day!

The success of the next day may start the night before, but it definitely doesn't stop there. Having a great morning routine is the perfect addition to your nighttime routine.
